Are you a fan of live music? Do you enjoy watching your favorite bands do live performances? Or do you simply want to know more about live music in Portland? Read on to find out some useful information about the live music scene in Portland.

Portland has a thriving live music industry. There are actually many restaurants that offer live music and many venues that host performances from the country’s top bands. Whether you like jazz, mainstream, indie, rock, or pop, you will have no trouble finding a bar or restaurant that suits your taste in music.

Let’s take a look at some of the more popular venues where you can enjoy live music in Portland. The Aladdin Theatre and Performance Center is probably the best-known venue for live music. It has great acoustics, making it a favorite concert venue of artists going on tour in Portland. It may be small but it provides comfortable seats with great views of the band. It has earned a solid five-star rating among TripAdvisor reviewers. Featured artists this week are Sharon van Etten and The War on Drugs on the 23rd (Friday) and Tyrone Wells with Joe Brooks on the 25th (Sunday).

The Doug Fir Lounge is the place to go for live indie music and is counted as one of Paste Magazine’s 40 Best Music Venues in America. The interiors will remind you of a comfortable log cabin. Performing this weekend are Mr. Gnome, Pt. Juncture WA, Sun Angle, Yppah, Anomie Belle, Cars & Trains, Lost in the Trees, and Poor Moon.

For jazz aficionados, Jimmy Mak’s is the place to visit. You can enjoy live jazz music from Monday to Saturday from 8pm onwards. Downbeat Magazine ranks Jimmy Mak’s as one of the top 100 jazz venues all over the world. Take advantage of the no cover charge policy every Monday night or catch one of Mel Brown’s bands every Tuesday through Thursday.

If you want a venue with a historical flavor to it, McMenamin’s Crystal Ballroom is the perfect place to see. Legends such as Janis Joplin performed here in the ’60s. The Crystal Ballroom also has a floating dance floor, which is the only one in the country and well worth the visit. This Friday, March 23rd, catch Of Montreal, Deerhof, and Kishi Bashi. On Saturday, March 24th, enjoy the music of Galactic, featuring Corey Glover, Corey Henry, and Orgone.

Dante’s is another very popular venue for live music that features mostly rock and heavy metal music. On Monday nights though, you can channel your inner rockstar by joining their “Karaoke From Hell” night. Guests are given the unique opportunity to sing with a live band, fulfilling their rockstar fantasies.

The Roseland Theater is another well-known music venue in Portland that has hosted the likes of Bob Dylan, Miles Davis, Prince, Tina Turner, and Pearl Jam, to name a few. It has a capacity of more than 1000 and boasts of a large stage with great acoustics. This weekend, visit the Roseland Theater to catch the concert of Umphreys McGee, Of Monsters and Men, and YTF.

Inventor’s Blueprint

One of the great things about the human mind is it’s constant ability to create through thought, to design, and to build a prototype. The problem that many run into is how to take the step between each of these processes. It starts with generally how to invent, understanding what needs to happen to start the process. Next, how do I make the invention. Where do I go to build this? What resources are out there? This is half the battle for every inventor out there. Sadly most get stuck here and never succeed past it. Where do you go to find invention help?
Our friends at Inventor’s Blueprint have seen the need to help with this issue by creating a guide that will help you take that step into being the creator of your invention from start to finish. They offer a great set of training videos that will prepare you for the road ahead. Please visit them at InventorsBlueprint.com

Oregon Ducks Defeat Nevada 69-20

0

Victory! The Oregon Ducks won their first victory this year. After losing the season opener they were ready to do some damage as they faced off against Nevada and the Wolf Pack. In the end Oregon walked away with a devastating 69-20 victory with Darron Thomas, The Ducks starting Quarterback, tying the school record with six Touchdowns. Four touchdowns were thrown through the air for 295 yards.
It was a great day overall with LaMichael James and the rest of the crew following Thomas in the dismantling of the Nevada team. Oregon’s record is now 1-1 and they will be playing the Missouri State Bears next week in Eugene. Nothing quite like a home game for the Ducks! Quack! Quack!

Bing Cherries and Rainier Cherries: The best of Oregon!

Rainier Cherries

As we get closer and closer to the warmth of Summer I cannot help but get excited for one of my most favorite types of fruit that will be coming into season in late June. What fruit you may ask? CHERRIES! Oregon Cherries are some of the best tasting cherries in the world. Personally my two favorite types of cherries are Bing Cherries and Rainier Cherries. Bing Cherries have a darker red color were first developed and grown right in The Dalles Oregon. They have quickly become a national favorite.

Rainier Cherries tend to have a yellowish color that fades to a blush. Also grown in the Gorge, these cherries are best in early July!
If you are looking to order Cherries this year be sure to visit The Fruit Company where they have a great selection of Cherries to order and have delivered to your doorstep. The Fruit Company owns their own Cherry Orchard so you know you are getting freshly picked fruit that will not only look good but taste good too!

One happy dog!

A Guitar is not just a Guitar: Gibson Dove Guitar

0

Growing up one of the things that I always enjoyed listening to was the guitar.  Whether it was instrumental, Classical, rock, it really didn’t matter. Eventually I convinced my parents that there was definitely a great guitar career ahead of me and all I needed was a guitar and some lessons.  Sadly I never ended up a rock guitarist but I do have a a love for the guitar.  Whether you are just an occasional player or a performer the guitar that I always look to as a great acoustic is the Gibson Dove Guitar.  Made Famous by the King of Rock, Elvis Presley, this Gibson is the essence of perfection and craftsmanship.

Once you play the dove you’ll be hooked.  If you get the chance you wont regret it.  Trust me, the Gibson Dove is something every guitarist needs to play. Enjoy!
